Joe Frazier open thread

Joe Frazier has answered the final bell.

Please share any thoughts in the comments. I will try to put together a post worthy of his accomplishments, and may quote some of your sentiments.

Thanks,

Nathan

All I will say is that I hope he finally gets a statue in Philly. Fictional Rocky has one, Smokin' Joe does not!

Of the two I think Joe deserves it.

Gotta agree with that one. Hell of a fighter, and was proud of his roots.

I think I was in 5th grade when the first Ali-Frazier happened. At the Garden in New York. Few fights really live up to all that hype, but that one delivered.

That had to be one of the best eras in heavyweight history: Frazier, Ali, Norton, Foreman, Liston, Patterson...

Frazier stalking and Ali floating like a butterfly. The jab vs. the left hook. Epic battles. RIP Smokin Joe. My ears were glued to the radio as a little tyke.

Frazier was amazing when I was a kid. It was still the era for boxing was king in the US. He was one of my favorites because he was not flashy but came into the ring to work!

That was one of the greatest eras in boxing history - Frazier, Ali, Norton, Foreman, Holmes - maybe the best for Heavyweights.

As a huge boxing fan, it's sad to see the decline of the sport of "Sweet Science."

I own a Boxing Gym in Austin, TX and most everyone has heard of these names. Ask anyone on the street who the Heavyweight Boxing Champion is now and you'll get a blank stare.
